Tottenham conduct review of medical department amid injury crisis
Tottenham Hotspur are undertaking a second review of their medical department in less than a year after Ange Postecoglou admitted that their injury crisis cannot just be put down to bad luck.
Another injury crisis at Tottenham Hotspur
Guglielmo Vicario, Cristain Romero, Ben Davies, Micky van de Ven, Richarlison, Wilson Odobert, and Mikey Moore (illness) are all currently on the mend at the moment.
Romero and Van de Ven both picked up their most recent injuries in their first game back after recovering from their previous ailments.
The same was true of Wilson Odobert and Richarlison earlier in the season, potentially showing a pattern of the players being rushed back before they are ready to play.
Tottenham to conduct another review of the medical department
The Standard now points out that Spurs only undertook a review of the methods used by the medical department during the summer after the team suffered more than their fair share of injuries through last season.
The club made several changes in personnel, with the former head of medicine and sports science, Geoff Scott, departing the club, and Nick Davies, who was formerly of Wales and West Ham, replacing him.
However, it is revealed that Postecoglou has been left ‘deeply frustrated’ by the injury pile-up again this season and has now ordered another fresh look at the medical practices used.
Postecoglou admits that injuries are not down to bad luck
Postecoglou confessed Spurs are conducting an analysis of the methods used by the medical department to get to the bottom of why so many players are picking up muscle issues.
When asked if Tottenham’s situation can be put down to luck, the Australian said (via The Standard): “I never think it’s just bad luck. Some of it is. I’ve never lost a goalkeeper for this period of time [before]. But some of it is recurring, particularly this year in terms of guys coming back and re-injuring. It’s something we’re looking at.
“We’re always trying to explore whether we can do things better. Last year was different to this year. Last year it hit us across the board. This year it’s more guys that are coming back who are affected. Knock on wood, we’ve got a core group who are playing a lot and are getting through it ok. But it is something we are trying to address.”
