Three More Huge Moves Red Sox Should Consider After Garrett Crochet Trade

The Boston Red Sox finally made an offseason splash Wednesday with the uplifting trade for Chicago White Sox All-Star starting pitcher Garrett Crochet.

That deal delivered the ace Boston sought this winter to improve the team in 2025. It’s a great start, but it cannot be the only major move for the Red Sox if they hope to snap a three-year postseason drought. There’s still moves to make and needs to fill and Craig Breslow seems poised to do so.

Here’s three more moves the Red Sox should consider this offseason.

Sign Right-Handed Bat
In this case, the options realistically come down to infielder Alex Bregman and Teoscar Hernández. Both have swirled through the Red Sox rumor mill for a number of weeks and resurfaced again during the Winter Meetings.

Either one can be the desired right-handed fit in the No. 3 spot in the lineup between Rafael Devers and Triston Casas. The Red Sox just need to discover which one that should be.

Sign Corbin Burnes
Just because the Red Sox got one frontline starter doesn’t mean they can’t go get another one, especially considering they haven’t dished out a major contract yet this winter.

Burnes is the top remaining starting pitcher in free agency as a 2021 Cy Young winner. He’s a proven ace that’s risen to the occasion in October. His market increased after the Max Fried signing with the Yankees.

The Red Sox will face competition in dollars and other teams but have the means to bring Burnes to Boston.

Make Another Starting Pitching Trade
Once again, there’s no stopping them from making another daring trade for a starter.

Yes, Boston gave up a haul of prospects headlined by Kyle Teel and Braden Montgomery in the Crochet trade. That’s OK, the market is steep and that’s what’s needed to complete such moves. Even with that, the Red Sox still have plenty of assets at hand if they feel a fitting trade makes sense to further bolster the rotation without a nine-figure free-agent deal for the moment.

There hasn’t been reported interest, but a call for Framber Valdez could make sense among a slew of remaining options on the market for Boston.
