Red Sox Fans Will Love Latest Free Agent Report From Top MLB Insider
The Boston Red Sox have captured attention early in the offseason with their pursuit of free agent Juan Soto.
They had a meeting with Soto last week, drumming up excitement that the Red Sox could beat out the competition and win the sweepstakes to sign the superstar outfielder. Even David Ortiz is “optimistic” about Boston landing Soto.
But while the Red Sox front office works on that major task, they have also been busy elsewhere on the free agent market as Soto apparently isn’t the only big name Boston is in on.
The New York Post’s Jon Heyman reported Friday that the Red Sox have shown interest in at least five marquee free agents. Heyman noted that Boston “inquired” about third baseman Alex Bregman as well as star pitchers Blake Snell, Max Fried and Corbin Burnes. Heyman also wrote that Chicago White Sox lefty Garrett Grochet is “drawing big interest” from the Red Sox among other teams.
Heyman’s report should bring delight to Red Sox fans. It feels like they are pursuing more big-time free agents than any other MLB team. They won’t land all of them obviously, but unlike past offseason, it feels they will lure at least one top player to Boston.
The reports from Heyman and other top MLB insiders also back what Red Sox president Sam Kennedy said this week about the franchise’s offseason approach.
“We are investing more than we did last year. We intend to invest going forward,” Kennedy told The Boston Globe. “There is an extreme urgency internally to be competing for the American League East Championship and to set ourselves up for a deep postseason run in 2025 without question. The goal is to win 90 plus games to not be worrying about a wild-card spot.”
