Washington Spirit’s Gabby Carle Called Up to Canada Women’s National Team
Carle and Canada to face Iceland and Korea Republic in Spain
Washington, D.C. (11/21/2024) – Washington Spirit defender Gabby Carle has been called up to the Canada Women’s National Team for its November and December friendlies against Iceland and Korea Republic in Spain, Canada Soccer announced today. Carle recently competed with Canada at the 2024 Olympic Games and in the side’s October friendly against Spain.
Carle has appeared for Canada in 50 international matches (22 starts), scoring one goal and adding two assists. The standout defender has competed for Canada at two FIFA Women’s World Cups (2019, 2023) and two Olympic Games (2021, 2024), helping the side to Olympic gold in Tokyo in 2021. Hailing from Lévis, Quebec, she made her debut in the Canadian national youth program in 2013 at 14 years old.
Canada’s November/December Friendly Schedule:
• vs Iceland | Friday, November 29 at 1 p.m. EST (Pinatar Arena, Murcia)
• vs Korea Republic | Tuesday, December 3 at 12 p.m. EST (Pinatar Arena, Murcia)
Carle has appeared in 52 matches for the Spirit, including the club’s recent NWSL quarterfinal and semifinal matches at Audi Field, since joining the side during the 2022-23 offseason. Having played over 4,000 minutes and tallied three assists with the club so far, she has been one of the most consistent players on the Spirit back line throughout her tenure.
The Spirit will take the field for the final time this year on Saturday night in the 2024 NWSL Championship. The team won back-to-back thrillers in front of sellout crowds at Audi Field, taking down Bay FC after extra time and knocking off defending champion NJ/NY Gotham FC in penalty kicks to earn a berth in this season’s title match. Kicking off at 8 p.m. EST on CBS, the Spirit will face the top-seeded Orlando Pride.
