Bruins Execs Confident In Joe Sacco As Jim Montgomery Replacement

The Boston Bruins made major changes Tuesday with the firing of head coach Jim Montgomery after an 8-9-3 start to the 2024-25 NHL season. Boston named Joe Sacco as the interim head coach to replace Montgomery.

Bruins president Cam Neely and general manager Don Sweeney issued confident statements in a team release regarding Sacco’s abilities to guide the team.

“Joe Sacco has a wealth of experience and knowledge of our roster and can help lead our team in the right direction,” Neely said. “He has a strong understanding of our standards and expectations, and I trust he will do all he can do to accomplish our organization’s goals this season.”

“I believe Joe Sacco has the coaching experience to bring the players and the team back to focusing on the consistent effort the NHL requires to have success,” Sweeney said. “We will continue to work to make the necessary adjustments to meet the standard and performance our supportive fans expect.”

Sacco takes the helm for his first game as the interim head coach Thursday night when the Bruins host the Utah Hockey Club at TD Garden. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. ET. You can catch the game, plus an hour of pregame coverage, on NESN.
