Alasdair Gold explains why Rodrigo Bentancur could be set to miss further matches
Alasdair Gold has warned that Rodrigo Bentancur is dangerously close to suffering yet another setback following his expected seven-match domestic ban.
Rodrigo Bentancur is set to be hit with lengthy ban
Rodrigo Bentancur had been waiting on the FA’s final verdict on his charge related to an aggravated breach of rule E3 for the extremely distasteful joke he made regarding Spurs captain Heung-min Son back in the summer.
It broke on Wednesday that English football’s governing body are set to hit the midfielder with a seven-match domestic ban for his conduct (Daily Mail).
That comes as a major blow for Ange Postecoglou, with the Uruguayan set to miss some big matches, including Premier League clashes against the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool, and a Carabao Cup quarter-final against Manchester United.
Alasdair Gold highlights issue which Bentancur faces
Gold has now pointed out that the Spurs midfielder is also dangerously close to an additional one-match suspension as a result of accumulated yellow cards.
Bentancur is currently on four yellows this season and if he picks up one more caution before matchweek 19, the 27-year-old would have to serve a one-match suspension.
Gold said on his YouTube channel: “That’s the way around it [potential ban], of course, is to play Bissouma in the Premier League and Bentancur in the Europa League.
“You just know it’s going to come at a time when the Europa League games stop, but there is actually also another thing to keep an eye on he’s also on four yellow cards now so one more yellow card and you can be adding another game on any potential ban.”

Bentancur will have to walk a tightrope when he returns
Bentancur will miss Tottenham’s next six Premier League matches and will be available for the club’s trip to Nottingham Forest on December 26.
The rules state that players who accumulate five yellows in the first 19 Premier League matches will have to serve a one-match suspension.
That means that the former Juventus man will have to walk a tightrope for two matches when he returns to avoid another suspension.
