Major boost for Tottenham as Real Madrid transfer update emerges
Tottenham’s chances of keeping one of their big-name players has just been boosted as an update emerges on Real Madrid’s transfer objectives.
Cristian Romero is said to be on Real Madrid’s radar
It has been widely reported over recent months that Real Madrid are fans of Cristian Romero and are eyeing a move for him next summer.
Even more concerningly, GiveMeSport reported last week that the Argentine is ‘increasingly likely’ to push for a move away from Tottenham next summer if Los Blancos came knocking on the door.
It was alleged that the 26-year-old is hesitant to sign a new contract with Spurs as he wants to wait and see if the La Liga giants make an approach.
Real Madrid make alternate transfer plans
However, Tottenham‘s chances of keeping hold of Romero may have just increased after French news outlet Le10Sport reported that Real Madrid are set to prioritise a move for Arsenal’s William Saliba instead.
The Frenchman is thought to ‘tick all the boxes’ for Carlo Ancelotti’s side and has now emerged as their number one target for next summer.
The report claims that Madrid have already contacted Saliba’s entourage about a switch to the Santiago Bernabeu and are expected to put together a big financial package to convince the Gunners star.
Who will cost more: Romero or Saliba?
Both Romero and Saliba are contracted to their respective clubs until 2027, which means that both players will be down to the final year of their contract next summer if they do not sign an extension.
While the Frenchman’s market value would be higher since he is three years younger than Romero, Madrid will know that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will not let the Argentine leave on the cheap.
Having said that, if the Spurs vice-captain does not sign a new deal before next summer, perhaps the smart thing for the club would be to cash in on him and bring in a solid option to partner Micky van de Ven at the heart of the defence.
