Manchester United have had an underwhelming start to the 2024/25 season.

The Red Devils are languishing in the 13th spot in the Premier League with just 15 points on the board.

The club have likewise struggled in the Europa League with six points from four league outings.

Their form improved prior to the international break and new manager Ruben Amorim will be aiming to continue the momentum ahead of the New Year.

The Portuguese could also be interested in strengthening the squad in January and it has been reported that United have made an enquiry for Christopher Nkunku.

The Frenchman is unhappy with his current situation under Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca. He is frustrated playing a back-up role in the Premier League.

United are one of his main admirers, but The Telegraph claim that Chelsea would only be willing to sell him if they can recoup the entire £52 million fee paid to RB Leipzig.

Nkunku would be a dream partner for Bruno Fernandes

The Paris Saint-Germain graduate was one of the most sought-after playmakers during his time at Leipzig.

Chelsea made a huge statement by securing his signature, but things have not gone as planned for Nkunku.

The 26-year-old had a tough debut campaign with multiple injuries and he could hardly establish himself.

Nkunku has stayed injury free this season, but he has failed to nail down a starting spot in the league.

He is the leading scorer for the Blues with 10 goals, but has not started in the top-flight since August.

This is bound to frustrate him and United have an opportunity to capitalise on the situation.

Nkunku, who has been described as ‘world-class‘ by Bundesliga’s official website, can play anywhere in the attack, but he is most comfortable from the attacking midfield role.

Amorim could play with two attacking midfielders in a new look 3-4-2-1 formation at United.

Nkunku would be a dream partner alongside Bruno Fernandes due to his strong ball-playing ability.

He has the knack for creating big chances and does not shy away from attempting long-range shots.

It is unlikely that United will make a huge outlay on him in January. The club could propose a loan deal for Nkunku with an option to buy, but that could depend on Amorim’s stance.

Amorim plans to build the team around Mason Mount after his return from injury. If things don’t work out, he could urge the hierarchy to invest in Nkunku at the turn of the year.
