The German replaces Gareth Southgate, who resigned in July after England’s Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain.
He becomes the third non-British permanent manager of the men’s team after Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.
And though Tuchel has never managed at international level before, he arrives having won the Champions League with Chelsea and domestic titles with PSG and Bayern Munich.
He’s also had experience managing several English players with captain Harry Kane thriving under his leadership at Bayern, scoring 36 goals and assisting eight in 32 Bundesliga appearances.

The French have won the World Cup on two occasions in 1998 and 2018, and boast a stacked squad spearheaded by Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe.
