The rumour mill continues to spin when it comes to suggestions Amanda Staveley will be investing in Tottenham Hotspur in the near future, and the woman herself has now issued a statement that hints at her business plans.

Two companies liquidated

With Daniel Levy and the Spurs board very openly looking for further investment in the club to help it grow on and off the pitch, it is no surprise that various names are being linked with a takeover or a share buyout at Tottenham.

Amanda Staveley was the face of the operation to takeover Newcastle United in 2021 as part of the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), but left the club at the end of last season.

It has been widely suggested that her next move will be to lead an investment group in buying a minority stake in Tottenham (Football Insider).

Staveley was present at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last weekend for the NFL game between Jacksonville Jaguars and the Chicago Bears, but that appearance came in the same week that two of her companies — including the one she was suspected to be using to buy into Spurs — went into liquidation.

Staveley dealing with tax changes in UK

Now, Staveley herself has addressed her business dealings in a statement via Bloomberg, and it seems to suggest that those winding up orders are all part of the plan.

In her statement, she said: “I will be retaining my existing UK tax residence after it has been completed. I also wish the government success with its growth agenda.”

It is thought Staveley has moved to shut down some of her firms in order to limit the impact of the expected hike in capital gains tax by Sir Kier Starmer’s Labour government.

Spurs deal could still be on

So, these changes to Staveley’s businesses should not really impact the potential for her to spearhead a shareholder buyout at Spurs.

The thing is, she was never going to be using her own funds for such a move anyway, and instead would rely on her contacts and experience in business dealings to help facilitate a takeover. Think Fabio Paratici, but with higher stakes.
