Silencing critics

It can be argued that no player has made his critics eat their words as swiftly as Brennan Johnson has done this season at Tottenham.

Just a little over a month ago, the winger was scapegoated by many Spurs fans and was widely written off as a flop by the larger footballing media.

Since then, the 23-year-old has netted in each of the last seven matches for both club and country, showing just why Tottenham paid £47.5m to bring him through the door last year.

Teammates leap to Johnson’s defence

Even before Johnson’s impressive run, plenty of his Tottenham teammates had come to the winger’s defence, including the likes of James Maddison (Football.London) and captain Heung-min Son (TBR Football).

Ange Postecoglou also sang the winger’s praises when he was targeted with intense criticism on social media, confidently asserting that the attacker would turn things around (BBC Sport).

There is no doubt that Johnson has proven the Spurs boss right and has managed to repay the faith he has shown in him.

Bellamy’s admission

It is clear based on how Johnson’s Spurs teammates talk that he is quite a popular figure in the dressing room and the same appears to be true in the Wales set-up as well.

Bellamy confessed that the Tottenham man is a great personality to have around the squad, with his teammates enjoying his company.

The Dragons boss told The Guardian about the former Nottingham Forest man: “He is a very humble kid, he’s just great to be around. The group love him. He clearly enjoys being here – he always has. He’s just the same as he was on the first camp. He’s great to be with.”
