Dawson says one player is finally showing his pre-Spurs form under Ange

Former Spurs defender Michael Dawson has been discussing the team’s defeat at Brighton, and while he was disappointed with the nature of the defeat, he had plenty of positives to share regarding one player in particular.

Brennan Johnson is full of confidence

Tottenham fell to a frustrating 3-2 defeat to Brighton last weekend, and given the manner in which the game was turned on its head in the second half, it’s hard for anyone to really have anything good to say about the Lilywhites’ performance.

But, one bright note to take from the game is that Brennan Johnson kept up his goalscoring run to make it six goals in six games.

The young winger has been on fire of late, and is now playing with a smile on his face, and is exhibiting great confidence to apply cool, composed, and clever finishes whenever he is through on goal.

Interestingly, Johnson now has more goals this season already than he scored in all 38 of his appearances last term.

Dawson is seeing the old Brennan Johnson return

Michael Dawson is very pleased to see the former Nottingham Forest star back at his best after a difficult patch, and he told The Football Show on Sky Sports (08/10/24 at 10:10 am) that this is the version of Johnson he is used to seeing.

He said: “This is something we haven’t seen an awful lot from Brennan Johnson in a Spurs shirt. He can come in off that right, he can end up in the middle of the 18-yard box and I think that showed a player full of confidence. Six in six.

“We saw him in the north London derby and after the game he got an awful lot of criticism on social media. He deleted that and, for me, it seems like it’s the best thing because he has gone on to score six in six. Brennan is off that and we are starting to see what I saw an awful lot at Nottingham Forest. He was scoring goals and playing with confidence – a very good return for him.”

Spurs fans should have trusted in Johnson all along

I hate to say I told you so, but I’ve been backing Brennan Johnson to turn things around for a very long time. You could see all the ingredients were there for him to start firing, and he just needed that confidence. Hopefully, he can keep this going for a long time.
