Maddison suffers yet more England disappointment after initial snub

0 0

Lee Carsley has now made another surprising selection decision after two midfielders withdrew from the England camp this week.

Maddison hard done by

Maddison will think that he has done all he can to force himself back into the England set-up, given his form since the start of the season.

The 27-year-old is playing at the same level as he did towards the start of the season and is influencing games much more in a slightly deeper role at Tottenham.

However, despite this, Carsley chose to leave the attacking midfielder out of his 25-man squad for England’s upcoming Nations League clashes against Greece and Finland.

Snubbed again

Maddison might have hoped to get his chance when it was announced that two of England’s midfielders, Morgan Gibbs-White and Kobbie Mainoo, were among three players to pull out of the squad due to injury.

However, it has now been revealed by PA Media reporter Simon Peach that Carsley has chosen against calling up any replacements, with the England boss set to make do with the 22 players he has at his disposal.

Bittersweet news

While this is not good news for Maddison, who will feel quite hard done by, Postecoglou will be quietly pleased that the midfielder will remain at Hotspur Way through the international break.

The former Leicester man has played a lot of minutes already this season and the Australian will be wary of running him into the ground, given the Spurs vice-captain’s injury record.
