Dani Carvajal’s injury at Real Madrid could be bad news for Tottenham

0 2

Tottenham Hotspur star Pedro Porro will be delighted after earning a recall to the Spanish national team this week, but Spurs fans will be watching with bated breath during the international break and praying the defender doesn’t pick up an injury.

Porro could have a key role in international fixtures

Porro has had to wait long enough for another chance at international level. The Spurs man was excluded from the recent double header in the Nations League, and was not involved in Spain’s Euro 2024 squad.

Now though, Porro has been welcomed back into the fold after a great start to the season, and will likely feature for Spain against both Denmark and Serbia.

That’s because Luis de la Fuente has been hit with an injury issue within his squad already, as the experienced Dani Carvajal has suffered a knee injury in his latest outing for Real Madrid.

Speaking on the status of his injury (via The Guardian), Carvajal said: “Serious cruciate ligament injury confirmed, I’ll have to undergo surgery and be off the field for a few months.”

While de la Fuente may well end up calling a replacement into his Spain squad for the upcoming fixtures, logic would suggest Porro will now be the starting right-back and could end up making up for lost time with his country with plenty of minutes on offer.

Porro being eyed for Spain move

This comes amid the recent rumours that Real Madrid are actually considering Porro as a replacement for Carvajal in the future.

According to information from CaughtOffside, Madrid see Porro as their backup option in case a move for Trent Alexander-Arnold doesn’t work out.

The report claims an offer of around £55m could be enough to tempt Spurs into thinking about letting Porro leave, and the idea of a return to his homeland could be enticing enough for Porro, too.

International minutes would be great for Porro

Obviously, we want Porro to return from international duty fit and healthy, but the most important thing is that he returns with a smile on his face.

The idea of him getting to represent his country again, and possibly doing so across both games, will be a massive boost to his confidence, and that can only be a good thing for Spurs.
