Alan Shearer predicts the result of Brighton vs Tottenham – ‘Plenty of goals’

Alan Shearer expects a really entertaining affair at the Amex Stadium, with both Tottenham and Brighton going all out for the win.

Similar philosophies of the two managers

Both Ange Postecoglou and Fabian Hurzeler set their teams up to play on the front foot and score goals, and as a result, both sides do get caught out at the back on occasion.

While Tottenham go into this game with five wins in their last five matches across all competitions, Brighton have picked up just one point in their last two outings against Nottingham Forest and Chelsea.

The Seagulls will be keen to get back to winning ways at home while Spurs will look to keep their winning run going, with Postecoglou making no secret of his grand ambitions for the season.

Shearer’s prediction

Unsurprisingly, Shearer expects plenty of goals in the game, with the Newcastle legend suggesting that the match will be quite congested in the middle of the park since both teams prefer to play a high line.

He predicted that the South Coast club would halt Tottenham’s winning streak, backing the two sides to play out a score draw.

Shearer told The Metro: “This is tough to call. Spurs were much better and played well against Man United, battered them in the first half, even when it was 11v11.

“Brighton have had a little stutter in terms of their result last weekend and a couple of draws before that, playing out from the back and getting caught with the high line.

“I can see plenty of goals in this one. You may see a game that’s congested within 20 yards with both teams wanting to play a high line, but I’d be willing to bet that one team will score a goal from trying to play that line, and one of them will get caught out. I’ll go for a score draw.”

Tottenham players will enjoy this game

Spurs have primarily had trouble against sides that have defended in a low block, denied them space in the final third, and looked to counter-attack them.

Brighton will certainly not be doing that, which is why the Tottenham players would be relishing the prospect of going toe-to-toe with Hurzeler’s men.
