£55m Man Utd signing missing but surprise Academy graduate included in Europa League squad vs Porto

0 2

Manchester United have confirmed their travelling squad for Thursday’s Europa League clash against FC Porto at Estadio do Dragao.

Mason Mount is missing from the 23-man squad after the midfielder suffered a head injury in the 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

The £55 million United signing came on as a substitute but was hooked off late in the game due to an injury.

The good news is that he did not suffer a concussion.

Another positive update is the inclusion of Kobbie Mainoo. The starlet was substituted with an apparent hamstring injury against Spurs.

He trained with the squad and could start against Porto.

Mount’s absence allowed Erik ten Hag to add Dan Gore to the travelling squad.

The Academy graduate suffered a shoulder injury after just one appearance into his loan spell with League One club Port Vale.

The 20-year-old captained the Under-21s against Hertha Berlin on Tuesday night.

He impressed everyone at United and made his senior debut under Ten Hag last year.

The trip to Porto will boost his confidence after spending a lengthy time on the sidelines.

We don’t believe that Gore will be involved in the clash as Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Toby Collyer are ahead of him.

Mount’s absence will be a setback as he recently returned from his hamstring injury.

Hopefully, he will be fit to face Aston Villa on Sunday.

Bruno Fernandes is expected to continue at his number 10 spot. The United captain received a red card against Spurs.

However, he won’t miss any games as United successfully appealed to overturn his ban.

Ten Hag is under tremendous pressure after poor results. Another lacklustre performance could leave him teetering on the brink of sacking.
