According to the print edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham and Chelsea are currently leading the race to sign Lecce left-back Patrick Dorgu.

Tottenham and Arsenal both want Patrick Dorgu

Dorgu’s stock has risen substantially since he first broke into Lecce’s starting eleven around a year ago and the youngster is now being backed to make a big move sooner rather than later.

Gazzetta suggest that the 19-year-old is quickly becoming one of the most coveted young players in Serie A and predict that he will not be at Lecce for much longer.

It is explained that the Italian club wanted €30m (£25.3m) for the teenager during the summer transfer window, however, his price is likely to rise before the January window opens for business.

If Lecce are successful in convincing Patrick Dorgu to sign an extension, it is alleged that they could demand €40m (£33.7m) for the full-back in January.

The publication adds that as things stand, London rivals, Tottenham and Chelsea are ‘in pole position’ to win the race for the Danish international and bring him to the Premier League.

This report comes just a few days after Quotidiano di Puglia claimed that the Lilywhites are ‘ready to launch an attack’ for Dorgu’s signature.

Tottenham are heavily reliant on Destiny Udogie to remain fit

I can understand why Spurs are keen on Dorgu since Ange Postecoglou would want a natural backup to Udogie, with Ben Davies not being a particularly good fit for the inverted full-back role due to his lack of pace.

Dorgu seems like he has all the attributes needed to thrive in the Premier League and it is certainly a positon which Spurs need to focus on within the next two windows.

Destiny Udogie‘s injury at the end of last season highlighted our frailties in the lack of depth to cover the Italian when he is unavailable which eventually saw Micky van de Ven shifted to the left following the likes of Oliver Skipp and Emerson Royal struggling to operate there on a temporary basis.
