Report: Liverpool expected to beat Tottenham to German international

According to the print edition of SportBild (as relayed by Sport Witness), Liverpool are the favourites to win the race for Jonathan Tah even though Tottenham are also keen on signing the Bayer Leverkusen man.

Jonathan Tah is a wanted man

The report reveals that Tah came close to joining Bayern Munich in the summer and was keen on the transfer, but the move fell through.

The centre-back is now into the final year of his deal at the Bay Arena and it is explained that despite Leverkusen’s attempts to extend the contract, the player has no intention of signing a new deal.

Tah has allegedly made up his mind to seek a new challenge and is thought to be attracted by the possibility of moving to the Premier League.

Liverpool are favourites to win the race

The report reveals that Liverpool, Spurs, Chelsea and Manchester United are all aware of this and are currently keeping tabs on the 28-year-old’s situation.

However, the Reds are thought to be leading the race for Tah, having identified the German international as a potential replacement for Virgil van Djik, whose future at Anfield is said to be in doubt.

Spurs currently have Cristian Romero, Micky Van de Ven, Radu Dragusin, and Ben Davies to choose from in the centre of defence.

Tah could be available for a cut-price deal in January and Tottenham may want further cover at centre-back, with Postecoglou only having three natural central defenders at his proposal.

I can see Spurs knocking on the door for the Leverkusen star in the winter.
