Sergio Reguilon is staying at Tottenham

To many people’s surprise, Reguilon stayed put at Spurs beyond the closure of the transfer window, even though it was quite clear that the left-back is not part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans.

The 27-year-old is into the final year of his contract and the Spurs boss has already sent him a warning, remarking that the defender is not guaranteed to be integrated into the squad if he stays (The Standard).

With the transfer window still open in Turkey, the Super Lig might offer the left-back a way out of Hotspur Way but journalist Ben Jacobs suggested last week that the former Real Madrid man might stay put at the North London side until January (GiveMeSport).

Romano has now revealed that he too has heard that Reguilon is not particularly desperate for a move and added that the Spaniard could even potentially fight for a place in the Tottenham side if he stays.

He said on The Debrief: “Yeah, there are some players still looking for moves. Ben Chilwell and Sergio Reguilon as you mentioned, nothing is really close or concrete with these two. In the case with Reguilon, I am told that he’s not desperate for a move.

“Either there is a good opportunity or he will be there fighting for a place at Tottenham. Chilwell is completely different because Chilwell is out of the project at Chelsea.”

Reguilon named in Premier League squad

In something of a twist in the Reguilon saga, the Spanish left-back has been included in Tottenham’s official Premier League squad for the first half of the season, meaning he is eligible to play for the Lilywhites.

Spurs Web Opinion

Perhaps Reguilon is not overly keen on a move to Turkey and believes that he might get better offers in January.

Either way, I do not think the left-back has any way back at Tottenham – unless there is a big injury crisis – as Postecoglou has evidently decided that the Spaniard is not suited to the inverted full-back role.
