Theo Walcott tips Tottenham player as ‘under the radar’ signing of the summer

Theo Walcott believes that Tottenham’s signing of Dominic Solanke has gone under the radar, backing the striker to deliver the goods for Ange Postecoglou’s men this season.

Solanke has only played one game so far

Solanke has not had the start he would have hoped for at Spurs as the centre-forward has only played one game since his big-money move from Bournemouth, having missed the clashes against Everton and Newcastle with an ankle injury.

The 26-year-old could be back in contention to start the North London Derby on Sunday after Ange Postecoglou revealed that he has returned to training (club’s official website).

Solanke thus has a golden opportunity to make himself an instant hero by netting his first goal for the Lilywhites against their local rival on Sunday. A goal will also take the heat off the newcomer, who would be feeling the pressure of the price tag.

Walcott names Solanke as signing of the summer

Walcott expects the centre-forward to outdo his goal tally of last season, pointing out that he will get much better service at Spurs than he did at the Vitality Stadium.

When asked who made the best signing this summer, the former Arsenal man told Now TV: “I like Solanke. I do really like Solanke.

“I think he did exceptionally well for Bournemouth and I think now if you’re putting him in a Tottenham team who, again, no disrespect to Bournemouth, he’s going to be around better players, he’s going to be playing the likes of Maddison behind him as well.

“But, the amount of goals he scored [last season], I was disappointed for him that he didn’t get into the England team. But again, now he’s gone to Tottenham a big, big stage for him. I think he’s probably going to be a one under the radar, Solanke, definitely.”

I too remain confident that Solanke will get at least 15 goals this season as he thrives on the kind of crosses that Tottenham tend to play across the box.

However, the 26-year-old must get off the mark quickly as the spotlight is firmly on him and there will be a lot of things written and said about him every game he goes without scoring.
