COVINA – St. Genevieve High School running back Jaylin Burt led the Valiants with four touchdowns to hand South Hills a 53-16 nonleague defeat at Covina District Field Friday night.

Burt, a senior, ran for two scores (1 and 60 yards) and caught two passes (32 and 38 yards) for the Valiants.

With the victory, St. Genevieve improved its record to 2-1, while the Huskies fall to 1-2.

Burt totaled 135 yards on the night, with 65 yards rushing and 70 yards receiving.

Valiants junior quarterback Michael Wynn was a near perfect 17 for 20 for a game-high 227 yards and four touchdown passes and ran for two.

South Hills was led by running back Sebastian Morinaga who had 95 rushing yards on 18 carries including a 51-yard touchdown, while junior fullback Tyler Arguinzoni carried the ball 15 times for 82 yards.

St. Genevieve took just 3:12 to score in the opening quarter for a 7-0 lead and reeled off 26 points the remainder of the half and never looked back for the 33-2 halftime advantage.

On the opening touchdown, the Valiants took advantage of a Huskies fourth down play that failed to gain a first down as senior defender Andrew Carreon intercepted the ball and returned it to the South Hills 5-yard line.

Six plays later Burt ran up the middle for the score.

Three minutes later the Valiants took a 13-0 lead on a 32-yard touchdown pass from Wynn to Burt.

St. Genevieve scored three more touchdowns and late in the half with just 1:10 remaining, a holding call in the end zone by the Valiants caused a safety and South Hills, trailed, 33-2 at the intermission.

After a 60-yard run by Burt to open the third quarter for the 39-2 lead, South Hills scored its first touchdown on Morinaga’s 51-yard and a two-point conversion run by sophomore quarterback Fabian Marez to trail, 39-10.

Marez was 10 for 14 for 64 yards and a touchdown run.

After a 38-yard touchdown pass from Wynn to Burt to lead, 46-10, Marez capped off the Huskies scoring with a 1-yard run up the middle in the third quarter.
