Queen’s Park return to cup football this weekend when they host Edinburgh City in the SPFL Trust Trophy at The City Stadium.

It will be the twelfth meeting between the clubs since 2015, when they last faced each other in this competition, with The Spiders winning 3-1 on penalties after a goalless draw at Meadowbank Stadium.

The following year the sides met again, with City now a SPFL club, in the League Cup with the Glasgow side again victorious, this time with a 3-0 score-line.

There have been 10 league meetings, all in League 2, with the last being in April 2021, with The Citizens having won five, Queen’s Park four and one ending in a 3-3 draw.

This Third Round Tie is both sides’ first game in The SPFL Trust Trophy this season.

The season so far
Queen’s Park have mostly enjoyed cup football this season with high scoring Group wins over Peterhead, Elgin and Kelty Hearts and a commendable display at Aberdeen in the knock-out stages.

Championship football has brought more mixed results with defeats on the road against Falkirk and Partick Thistle experienced along with a win at Airdrieonians and a draw in their home match against Livingston.

Edinburgh City’s Premier Sports Cup Group saw losses against Motherwell, Clyde, Partick Thistle and Montrose with an opening day League 2 last gasp defeat from Stirling Albion followed by a draw against Bonnyrigg Rose and a fine win at Forfar ahead of a home loss to Peterhead.
