'Rare opportunity': £52m Man United summer signing 'step closer' to his return - report

Manchester United are in line to receive a massive fitness boost with summer signing Leny Yoro stepping up his rehabilitation.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Yoro is now walking without crutches. He sustained a metatarsal injury in the pre-season clash against Arsenal in July.

He underwent surgery in August with the aim of returning in three months.

The 18-year-old moved to Old Trafford this summer in a deal worth £52 million. United beat Real Madrid in the race to secure his services.

A positive step in Leny Yoro’s recovery

Man United reportedly knew about a potential issue in Yoro’s foot during the medicals.

However, they considered progressing with the signing as it was a ‘rare opportunity‘ to capture one of Europe’s highly-regarded young players.

Yoro is hailed as a dazzling generational talent, and United could not pass on the chance to sign the starlet.

Madrid and Liverpool were keen to sign him, but LOSC Lille couldn’t resist the offer from the Red Devils.

United would ideally want the teenager to integrate into the team seamlessly.

They signed Matthijs de Ligt in the summer to partner Lisandro Martinez at the back.

Even though both the centre-backs are only in their mid-20s, they have plenty of experience playing at the top level.

Yoro could be an excellent option to rotate. This strategic move will assist the youngster to acclimatise to his new surroundings.

United also must carefully manage the defender’s entry into the limelight. The Frenchman is a phenomenal prospect, and the club must nurture his growth with care.

If supported properly, he could become a cornerstone of United’s defence for the next decade.
