Who are Westerlo?

KVC Westerlo, formally known as Koninklijke Voetbal Club Westerlo, are a Belgian Pro League club who were initially founded in 1917 by a group of students.

The club was originally called Sportkring De Bist Westerlo, before becoming Bist Sport in 1931, and later, in 1933, taking on the KVC Westerlo name.

They play at the Het Kuipje stadium, which has a capacity of 8,035. Their current manager is Timmy Simons, who took over the role in July of this year.

Westerlo’s highest finish in the Belgian league is sixth, which they achieved in the 1999–00, 2003–04 and 2008–09 seasons. They have won one Belgian cup, though.

After six games this season, Westerlo are in fourth place in the league. Last season, they finished 11th out of 16 teams, avoiding the relegation play-offs by just one point after 30 games.

Alfie Devine joins Luka Vuskovic at Westerlo

After a summer of uncertainty, Spurs ace Alfie Devine has joined Westerlo on loan for the 2024/25 campaign.

It was thought initially that Devine would secure a move to a Championship club, but Tottenham were thought to have decided to keep the playmaker. Then, they changed their mind, but it was too late to get a move completed before the transfer deadline in England.

Luckily, the Belgian window is open until Friday, September 6, allowing Devine to find a new home for the season.

At Westerlo, he will link up with another Spurs starlet, Luka Vuskovic. The Croatian defender signed for Tottenham last summer, but is unable to officially join the Lilywhites until he is 18.

He will arrive in North London next summer, but he needed to rack up more Governing Body Endorsement points before he is eligible to play in England, which he could only do by playing in a higher-rated league.

Vuskovic has made six appearances so far this season, scoring one goal (Transfermarkt).
