‘Amazed’ – Pundit does not think rumoured Tottenham takeover will actually happen

Simon Jordan believes that it is wishful thinking to suggest that anyone would be able to buy a quarter of Tottenham Hotspur for around £600m.

Amanda Stavely is reportedly interested in Tottenham

This claim has been made by Jordan after it was reported a few days ago that former Newcastle United co-owner, Amanda Staveley, backed by money from the Middle East, is now stepping up a bid to buy a stake in Tottenham.

This report appeared in The Sun, claiming that Staveley, who left Newcastle earlier this summer, is putting together a fresh funding team to buy a minority stake in the North London side.

The publication added that the 51-year-old is backed by ‘serious money’ from Saudi Arabia and that she could spearhead a bid to buy a 25 per cent stake in Tottenham for around £650m.

Will Tottenham actually sell a 25% stake?

However, Jordan highly doubts that that kind of fee would be enough to buy one-fourth of Spurs, with the former Crystal Palace owner suggesting that the Lilywhites would be valued at a much higher price than reports suggest.

He told talkSPORT: “It is not beyond the wit of man to believe that if someone was going to make a very substantial offer to buy a proportion of the football club, and that money can be redeployed to advance the football club – then it could be considered.

“But I’d be surprised, and I’d be amazed if they can buy Tottenham – or 25 per cent of it – for £600million. I don’t see that happening. But, who knows? Depends what they think that £600million could be worth.”

Jordan is right in saying that Forbes’ valuation is not really relevant, and that Tottenham will be worth whatever investors are willing to pay for the club.

The club’s value and the value of the Premier League continue to rise, which is why Levy will not be shortchanged, especially given that Todd Boehly paid £4.25 billion for Chelsea not too long ago.

£600m is likely to buy you no more than 15 per cent of Tottenham, given the infrastructure that is now in place at the club.
