Medical done: Man Utd prepared to sign 'tireless' 23yo star today - Sky Sport journalist

Manchester United are likely to announce their fifth summer signing on Thursday, according to Sky Sport Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.

The Red Devils have already recruited Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui this summer.

Manuel Ugarte is set to become the club’s fifth major acquisition of the transfer window.

Ugarte was pictured arriving at Carrington on Tuesday night and he has now successfully undergone his medical tests.

Plettenberg claims that United plan to announce his arrival on Thursday (today).

Ugarte should be a fantastic signing for United

United have been yearning for a ball-playing defensive midfielder and they have finally found a solution with Ugarte.

Casemiro started off his Red Devils career in good fashion, but his performances have been average over the past year.

The Brazilian has had the tendency to lose possession and has lacked intensity during the back end of league games.

A fine example was last weekend. He stood out in the opening half against Brighton & Hove Albion, but looked a shadow of himself after the hour mark.

The arrival of Ugarte is a huge boost. The Uruguayan is good with the ball at his feet and possesses strong defensive skills.

The 23-year-old had a passing accuracy of 91% in Ligue 1 last term with an average of 3.9 tackles and 6.4 duels won per outing.

He also made more than seven ball recoveries per appearance and maintained the same intensity over the entire 90 minutes.

Ugarte, who is described as ‘tireless‘ by PSG’s official website, is an upgrade on Casemiro and should partner Kobbie Mainoo going forward.
