Son grabbed his first goals of the season against Everton

Tottenham captain, Heung-Min Son, had to wait until the fourth game of the Premier League season last campaign to open his account for the season, doing so emphatically with a hat-trick against Burnley

Son repeated a similar act this season, albeit earlier in the campaign, by recording a brace against Everton, helping Tottenham put their frustrating opening-day draw to Leicester behind them.

Tottenham’s second of the afternoon, and Son’s first, was courtesy of the Korean’s high press on Jordan Pickford whose heavy touch allowed the Spurs forward to steal the ball and roll it into an empty net.

Tim Sherwood has praised Son and Tottenham’s press

Tim Sherwood, who was in charge of Tottenham for twenty-six games back in 2014, has praised the aggressive press employed by Ange Postecoglou (Premier League Productions).

He said: “You know with Tottenham, you are going to get an aggressive press from the front players and none more so than Sonny.

“Look at his aggression. Pickford must know that there isn’t any time to take a touch out of your feet like that and he got what he deserved. And Sonny nicks it off it. It’s really, really poor from Pickford”.

Spurs Web opinion:

Tottenham are significantly better to watch and have much more tempo to their game when they press, as Son did very successfully against Everton.

As Sherwood pointed out, it is poor from Pickford, but Son’s intelligent timing of his press on the England goalkeeper forced such an error.

The fact that Spurs have now been rewarded for their high press too should encourage and convince the rest of the squad of Postscoglou’s methods, which as the Australian has said many times, is key to his success.
