West Ham ready to lose money on £30m star signed last summer

0 4

West Ham are open to selling James Ward-Prowse in the final days of the transfer window as the midfielder is not viewed as a key part of Julen Lopetegui’s plans.

The Spanish coach has made several changes to the Hammers’ squad he inherited from David Moyes with nine new players arriving at the London Stadium so far during the current transfer window.

West Ham could still sign another star and have been linked with a move for PSG midfielder Carlos Soler; however, the London outfit need to sell players first, reports The Guardian.

In order to facilitate this move, Football Insider report that the Premier League club are open to moving on Ward-Prowse before the transfer window shuts this week, with the 29-year-old having already been told that he is free to find a new club if their asking price is met.

The Hammers are not expecting to recoup the £30m fee they paid to Southampton a year ago for the Englishman, but a £25m bid would seal the deal.

Lopetegui does not regard Ward-Prowse as instrumental as David Moyes had done when he was manager and the midfielder has barely featured for the Spanish coach so far this season. The Englishman played just 16 minutes against Aston Villa on the opening weekend and didn’t feature at all on Saturday during the Irons’ win over Crystal Palace.

Where will West Ham’s James Ward-Prowse play this season?

Although West Ham are ready to sell Ward-Prowse, there have been no reports of any clubs showing an interest in the midfielder with his future up in the air.

The 29-year-old would be a good signing for several Premier League clubs as he is proven in the division and is not going to cost a lot.

A return to Southampton would be the fairytale move for Ward-Prowse but it will not be a surprise if several clubs come knocking over the course of this week knowing that West Ham are ready to move the player on.
