Fabrizio Romano: Man Utd star could’ve played last game for Red Devils today amid fresh development

0 2

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay came off the bench for his second Premier League appearance of 2024-25 in the 2-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion today, and he could have played his last game for the Red Devils, according to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Napoli have tabled a €25 million bid for the Scotland international, but Man United rejected it yesterday.

However, an additional €5m could get the Serie A club McTominay as they are pushing to get the midfielder ahead of the transfer window deadline on Friday night.

Man United want to sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte but may need to sell before landing the Uruguay international in a permanent deal, and getting €30m for their academy graduate could be too much for them to turn down.

Napoli manager Antonio Conte wants McTominay, and he could be open to the switch if he is guaranteed a regular place in the starting XI of the Italian.

The former Chelsea manager is aiming to win the Serie A title with his new club, and becoming a title winner would appeal to the Red Devils midfielder.

The 27-year-old has never come close to winning the Premier League since becoming a first-team player in 2017, and Man United are not looking like title challengers right now.

McTominay has played 17 minutes of league action this season and has never really established himself as a member of the starting line-up since breaking into the first-team, and the chance to do so at a club like Napoli could be attractive to him.

Manager Erik ten Hag would love to hold on to the Scot, but the need to balance the books could force his hands in the coming days, and it is safe to say the midfielder could have played his last game for his childhood club.
