Heung-min Son delivers verdict on Dominic Solanke after his Spurs debut

Tottenham Hotspur fans may be disappointed after seeing their team kick off the Premier League season with a 1-1 draw against newly-promoted Leicester City, but Heung-min Son has been finding the positives in the performances of the club’s new players.

Solanke impresses Son on debut

It was a frustrating night for Spurs, who dominated the first half against the Foxes but only had a 1-0 lead to show for it. Dominic Solanke alone had plenty of chances to put the Lilywhites out of sight, but was unable to bag a goal on his debut.

Then, in the second half, Spurs were pegged back when Jamie Vardy found space in the box and headed home an equaliser.

Fans, players, and Ange Postecoglou have all expressed their dismay at the draw, but Son had good things to say about his teammates after the game.

He told beIN SPORTS: “I think Dom was doing a really good job in the striker’s job. Not just with the ball, but without it as well. He was pressing really well, making problems for defenders.”

Young players get credit, too

Son was also happy with the displays from debutants Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, and also praised the resurgent Djed Spence, too.

The Spurs skipper added: “So all the young players like Archie, Lucas, even Djed did a good job. I’m happy to see them on the pitch. But that’s what we are here for. They are happy to be here but we need to win this game so we need a big performance and big attitude.”

I thought Solanke had an alright debut, he was showing all the signs that he will work well in this system and on another night could have had a hattrick. I was really pleased with Bergvall when he came on and he looked hungry for the ball and wanted to make things happen.
