Oliver Skipp – living the dream

Growing up a Spurs fan and going on to play for your boyhood club is a dream come true for any young footballer, and Skipp very much lived that dream.

Having made over 100 appearances for the Lilywhites and becoming a regular in the first-team squad, sadly, Skipp’s time with Spurs has come to an end.

The club announced on Monday that the midfielder had officially joined Leicester City on a permanent basis. It is thought the deal will be worth more than £20m and it is believed Spurs have a sell-on clause included in the agreement (Alasdair Gold).

Now, Skipp has shared a message on social media, revealing how he feels about the move and praising the fanbase he is leaving behind.

He said: “After an incredible 18 years at my boyhood Club, it’s time to say goodbye.

“It’s been an amazing journey that started as a 5-year-old in 2006 to today in 2024. So many special memories that I will never forget. To have played over 100 times for the Club is such an honour and a privilege.

“Lastly, a big thank you to all the fans, players, staff and Chairman for all that you’ve done for me.

“I’ll be back as a fan one day! COYS!”

Falling down the pecking order

Unfortunately, Skipp found himself slipping down the pecking order at Spurs under Ange Postecoglou. The arrivals of both Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall likely didn’t help matters this summer, either, with both teenagers impressing early in their Spurs careers.

Skipp will now link up with former Spurs man, Harry Winks, in the Leicester midfield. It is widely believed the 23-year-old will now get regular playing time with the Foxes.

Spurs Web Opinion

It’s really sad to see Skippy go, but it makes perfect sense for both Tottenham and the player himself. He needs consistent gametime and he was only going to stagnate at Spurs. We wish him all the best and know he will be a big success at Leicester.
