Report: Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall have changed Tottenham’s transfer plans

The Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick has said that Tottenham Hotspur are not expected to enter the market for a number six despite the impending exit of Oliver Skipp.

Oliver Skipp is set to join Leicester City

Kilpatrick says that Skipp is officially expected to complete his proposed switch to the King Power Stadium today ahead of the showdown between Spurs and Leicester City.

The 23-year-old has reportedly passed his medical after the two clubs agreed with a deal worth £25m including add-ons.

Kilpatrick alleges that despite Skipp’s departure, Tottenham do not intend to sign another defensive midfielder before the end of this month.

Gray and Bergvall have impressed at Spurs

New signing Archie Gray is expected to take the place of the Tottenham academy graduate in the squad, with Ange Postecolgou said to have been impressed by the former Leeds man as well as Lucas Bergvall during pre-season.

In fact, The Standard journalist adds that Gray is even in line to make his debut this evening against the Foxes since Yves Bissouma is serving his one-match suspension.

Therefore, it appears that Spurs may cash in on Oliver Skipp without needing to sign another midfielder reinforcement this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham might not want another number six with Gray, Bissouma and Bentancur capable of playing in that role but they would likely want to add another box-to-box number eight to their squad before the transfer deadline.

Even though Bergvall has looked very promising, Postecoglou will likely use him as a number ten in rotation with Maddison this season before potentially moving him to a deeper midfield role once he matures.
