‘Same ambitions’ – Wilson Odobert reveals what Tottenham fans can expect from his game

It has been quite the week for Wilson Odobert, who went from scoring on the opening weekend of the Championship season for Burnley, to securing a big move to Tottenham Hotspur on Friday. Now, he’s been speaking about that move.

Odobert wants to entertain

While fans, pundits, and transfer experts speculated about a number of wingers across Europe that Tottenham might want to sign this summer, the club quietly got on with the task at hand and out of nowhere, the signing of Odobert was announced.

The 19-year-old has joined Spurs in a reported £25m move, with a further £5m in add-ons (Alasdair Gold).

Speaking with the club for the first time since joining, Odobert shared his thoughts on the transfer: “First and foremost, Tottenham is a big club and it’s hugely ambitious, too. I think the club and myself share the same ambitions. We’re on the same wavelength.”

When asked what he brings to the team, Odobert said: “I’ve got a decent amount of pace. I like to take people on and dribble, I like to get on the ball, bring others in, to entertain, and at the same time enjoy my football, too.

“I really feel I’ll be part of a great project here, with fantastic support and a superb stadium. It’s a top club and all these factors helped convince me to come here.”

The Premier League is tough

Talking about the way he adapted to the Premier League with Burnley last year, the youngster added: “This league isn’t an easy one to get used to playing in. But that [move to Burnley] gave me the chance and helped me grow and develop as a player, in terms of technique and mentality.

“It’s a tough ask to come and play here against Tottenham… from the outset I was hugely impressed, by the stadium and the supporters. Now here I am as a Spurs player! I’m really up for it; to do everything I can, to fight hard, to succeed in winning the fans over, and help the club get results.”

I like that these are not just generic responses, and you can tell the young lad has a good brain and maturity about him. He sounds hungry to do well here, and hopefully we see him getting plenty of chances to play this season.
