Tottenham youngster praised for progressing even faster than expected

Tottenham’s pre-season has been characterised by young stars shining, including new addition Lucas Bergvall who could play a big part for Postecoglou next season.

Tottenham paid €10m for Bergvall in February

18-year-old Lucas Bergvall had offers from both Barcelona and Tottenham back in January, according to David Ornstein.

The young Swede opted for Spurs over the Spanish giants, signing a five-year deal on his 18th birthday in February, completing a €10m switch from Swedish side, Djurgarden.

Bergvall joined up with Tottenham this summer, putting on some impressive displays in pre-season, with cameos against QPR and Bayern Munich being two of the Swede’s best outings.

Bergvall is progressing faster than expected at this stage

Despite being 18 and recently arriving from a minnow league, Bergvall has hardly displayed a need to adapt to life at Tottenham, with Alasdair Gold suggesting such a quick adjustment has even surprised people at Spurs.

Gold said: “Lucas Bergvall has a bit of strength about him. I just feel like he’s further along in the process than we or Spurs expected.

“I just have this feeling that at some point this season, maybe even in the first half of the season, he will do something magical and Postecoglou will know he’s ready. I just have this feeling it’s coming.”

Bergvall has been one of the most exciting players to watch in Tottenham’s pre-season with his close-touch dribbling and impressive eye for a pass making him a joy to watch.

It’s therefore encouraging to hear that Postecoglou and people at Spurs have been equally as impressed with the Swede likely to have a big part to play next season, due to the sheer volume of games Tottenham could play due to being in five competitions.
