RIP PETER QUINN AND PADDY WILLIAMS

Everyone at Oriel Park would like to extend our condolences to the family and friends of two Dundalk FC supporters who sadly passed away in recent days.

Peter Quinn (77) and Paddy Williams (89), two successful businessmen with strong links to the club, died on Friday, August 2nd.

As part of the family group that owned The Imperial Hotel, the Ballymascanlon Hotel and the Fairways Hotel, Peter Quinn, who lived on Point Road, was a well-known face to many in town.

Although Peter’s first love was golf, he also had a keen interest in Dundalk FC and his brother Oliver was chairman during the glory days of the Jim McLaughlin era.

Peter spent almost 40 years at the helm of The Imperial, one of Dundalk’s most popular hotel and nighttime destinations, and the venue for the Dundalk FC homecoming when the side won the FAI Cup in 1981 and the league title in 1982.

Peter is survived by his wife, Michele, sons, Pearce and Kevin, brothers, Brian and Oliver, sister Miriam, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his father James and mother Irene and by his brother Joe.

Paddy, who lived in Ard Easmuinn, ran a furniture manufacturing business for 35 years and was a member of the board at Oriel Park during the nineties when Eamonn Hiney was chairman.

Paddy is survived by his wife Frances, daughters, Anne and Fran, sisters Christabel Clifford and Mary Coburn, grandchildren, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Anne Casey.

A requiem mass for both men was held on Monday with Paddy’s burial taking place in St Patrick’s cemetery while Peter’s remains were cremated in Dardistown Crematorium.
