Hoilett: I Can’t Wait To Get Started

New signing Junior Hoilett is buzzing to pull on the Hibs jersey for the first time, after signing a one-year deal with the Club.  

The Canadian international brings with him a wealth of experience, having played over 500 senior games – including six seasons in the English Premier League.

The 34-year-old becomes David Gray’s sixth signing of the summer transfer window, continuing his time in Scotland having spent the back end of last season at fellow Premiership side Aberdeen.

Speaking to Hibs TV, Hoilett explained how excited he was to get the deal over the line and why he chose Hibs.

“I am delighted to be here, I can’t wait to get started – I am really looking forward to meeting the group and getting familiar with everyone.

“I was a bit devasted that I picked up an injury just before the COPA America started in the summer. That was unfortunate but I stayed positive through the whole situation, I had a good conversation with the Gaffer here and Sammy (Craig Samson).  

“They kept in contact throughout, so it was good to hear their ideas on what they want to achieve this season and I wanted to be a part of that plan. I am delighted to get the deal done – I can’t wait to get the ball rolling and get back out there.”

The energetic forward has a plethora of experience under his belt, including six seasons in the Premier League with the likes of Blackburn Rovers, Queens Park Rangers and Cardiff City.

The winger also earned two English Championship promotions, before spells at Reading, Vancouver Whitecaps and most recently, Aberdeen FC followed.  

“When you play in different leagues, in different environments and with different players it helps mould you as a player and as a person”, Hoilett continued.

“You get to experience a whole range of different things both on and off the field which all help you move forward.

“I am fortunate enough to have played with such great players and worked with some great staff. Everything is a learning experience, I have taken a lot of information on board and I have met a lot of people who have helped me improve as a player and a person.

“I enjoyed my time at Aberdeen and I got a good taste of Scottish football up there. The fans are passionate, and football is like a religion up here. 

“I can’t wait to meet the fans; I am here to help the team progress and make sure we achieve our goals this season.  

“Not only that, hopefully I can help the young players here to develop and achieve their potential as well.

 “The fanbase here is big, it is a big club and I can’t wait to pull on the jersey at Easter Road.”
