Report: Club ready to slash price on Spurs-linked player after receiving no offers

It has been a fairly quiet summer for Tottenham Hotspur so far, but their lack of activity may have just forced the hand of one club, who are now likely to cut the price of a player Spurs have been linked with.

Federico Chiesa’s price set to drop again

Despite intense speculation out of Italy that Tottenham were keen on signing Federico Chiesa, there has been no official offer from the Lilywhites, and Juventus are becoming increasingly desperate to offload the player due to the fact he is in the final 12 months of his contract.

The latest on Chiesa’s situation comes from Corriere dello Sport, claiming the player’s agent had been in London trying to get either Spurs or Chelsea to submit an offer for the Italian winger who is deemed surplus to requirements by Juventus manager, Thiago Motta.

A reduced price tag of around €25m (£21.3m) still couldn’t attract any substantial interest from Premier League clubs, with Manchester United, Arsenal, and Aston Villa also cited as potential suitors.

Now, Juventus could be willing to cut Chiesa’s asking price even further, possibly as low as €15-17m (£12.8-14.5m) with a sell-on clause attached.

Are Spurs interested or not?

There appears to be a real disconnect between the opinions of those in Italy, who vehemently claim Tottenham are close to signing Chiesa, and those more closely connected to the club who deny these theories.

According to Alasdair Gold at Football.London, the rumours have left Spurs officials ‘non-plussed’ as there is ‘no truth’ to the speculation.

Meanwhile, SportMediaSet via CalcioNapoli24 had claimed a deal worth between £25.3m – £29.5m was close to completion.

Signing a player of Chiesa’s ability for as little as £13m sounds like a brilliant deal on paper, but there’s a reason he’s so cheap now.

His injuries and subsequent drop in form are a concern. I think we’d be better off giving Mikey Moore the game time, to be honest.
