Report: Liverpool could stand to gain almost £10m thanks to Spurs this summer

According to TBR Football, Liverpool may benefit significantly from Tottenham’s pursuit of Dominic Solanke, with the Reds having a sizable sell-on claim on the Bournemouth striker.

Liverpool have a Solanke sell-on clause

The report points out that the Reds inserted a 20 per cent sell-on clause on Solanke when the striker made the switch from Anfield to the Vitality Stadium back in 2019 in a deal worth £19m plus add-ons.

The centre-forward’s market value has sky-rocketed since and the Merseyside club’s coffers could thus be boosted if the 26-year-old completes his proposed move to Spurs.

Solanke reportedly has a release clause of £65m in his contract with the Cherries (The Athletic), and if Spurs decide to pay that this summer, Arne Slot’s men would receive approximately £9m of the fee.

Bournemouth do not walk to sell Solanke

However, according to reports over the last 24 hours, Bournemouth are refusing to accept anything below £65m for the Englishman while Tottenham are hesitant to pay such a huge fee (GiveMeSport).

Spurs currently have Richarlison as the only senior out-and-out striker option in North London, and even he has struggled with his fitness over the past two years.

The likes of Heung-min Son, Dejan Kulusevski, Brennan Johnson and Timo Werner can all cover up front, while 19-year-old Will Lankshear has impressed in pre-season.

Spurs Web Opinion

I would be quite surprised if Tottenham paid over £60m for Solanke, particularly now that it is fairly clear that Richarlison is likely to stay put at the club.

Spurs will be hoping that the former Liverpool man pushes for a move and forces the Cherries to drop their asking price.
