Report: Spurs one of four PL clubs chasing prolific striker, but he may be too expensive

Some of the biggest clubs in England are all chasing the same striker this summer, but they may all find him too expensive to sign right now due to a huge release clause in his contract.

Gyokeres going nowhere

Viktor Gyokeres is hot property, and a number of top clubs are sniffing around the Sporting Lisbon striker after he enjoyed a prolific campaign in Portugal last season.

However, he looks likely to stay put for another year at least, as a report from Football Insider reveals Spurs and Liverpool have joined a race that could cost them £86m if they were successful.

The report claims Arsenal, who have been hunting the striker for some time, have been joined by the Lilywhites and the Anfield outfit as the Premier League giants all look for a new striker.

Chelsea are also interested in the Swedish marksman, but all four clubs are likely to struggle to afford Gyokeres thanks to the £86m release clause he has in his contract.

The report states it is unlikely Gyokeres will be heading back to England unless Sporting decide to lower their asking price.

Sporting could cash in for huge profit

The Portuguese side are set to make a huge profit on the £16.9m they paid Coventry for the forward just one year ago.

Spurs have previously been linked with the 26-year-old, with Correio da Manha (as relayed by Sport Witness) claiming he is seen as the heir to Harry Kane for the North London side.

Spurs Web Opinion

Viktor Gyokeres is much like Alexander Isak for me. They are both absolutely the kind of player we should be looking at to become our new number 9, but they are also both far too expensive and I just cannot see us making it happen. Still, we can dream.
