Which Three Prospects Red Sox Traded To Blue Jays For Danny Jansen

The Boston Red Sox added a third catcher to their roster Saturday by acquiring Danny Jansen from the Toronto Blue Jays.

Jansen, a seven-year veteran who’s played the entirety of his big league career with the Blue Jays, batted .212/.303/.369 with six home runs and 18 RBIs in 61 games this season. The 29-year-old matched one of Boston’s trade deadline wants — a right-handed hitter — and it’ll be interesting to see how the organization decides to utilize its now trio of catchers — Connor Wong and Reese McGuire have split behind-the-plate duties in 2024.

In exchange, Boston sent over three prospects to finalize the deal with Toronto:

Cutter Coffey, Infielder
The Red Sox selected Coffey 41st overall in the second round of the 2022 MLB Draft. The 20-year-old spent his first full professional season with the organization playing for Single-A Salem for 81 games to begin 2023 before being promoted to High-A Greenville. Coffey batted .238/.321/.463 with 14 home runs, 12 doubles and 46 RBIs in 61 games this season, splitting time at third base and shortstop.

Eddinson Paulino, Infielder
Paulino signed with Boston as an international free agent out of the Dominican Republic in 2018, and the 5-foot-10 utility infielder worked his way up to Double-A Portland the last six years. Playing in 69 games with the Sea Dogs, Paulino batted .263/.349/.391 with three home runs, three triples, 16 doubles and 35 RBIs. He was the No. 22 ranked prospect in the Red Sox minor league system, according to MLB Pipeline.

Gilberto Batista, Pitcher
Batista, too, joined the Red Sox through way of international free agency, signing in 2022. The 19-year-old spent his first professional campaign in the organization’s Dominican Summer League — in Batista’s native land — before working his way to Single-A Salem. Batista made five starts in eight trips to the mound this season, going 0-3 with a 3.92 ERA, striking out 23 hitters in 20 2/3 innings tossed.
