Report: Manager’s comments should interest Spurs as target seems destined to leave
CalcioMercato report that Thiago Motta’s latest comments about Federico Chiesa seem to imply the Juventus winger will be leaving this summer – news which could interest Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham are interested in Federico Chiesa
Stories linking Federico Chiesa with a move to Tottenham have been running wild this week, ever since Fabrizio Romano reported that Juventus could sell the Italian attacker this summer.
Chiesa – a player who seemed to have the world of football at his feet back in 2021 – is now available for just £21m after another season of poor form and injury troubles (Fabrizio Romano).
SportMediaSet (via CalcioNapoli24) released the biggest report on Chiesa’s future this week when they claimed he was close to joining Tottenham Hotspur.
They said live on air: “Chiesa will say goodbye to Italy, he won’t go to Roma or Napoli but to the Premier League. He is close to Tottenham for €30-35m (£25.3m – £29.5m).”
Unfortunately for Spurs, Romano poured cold water on the idea (Playback): “Questions on Chiesa. My friend, at the moment I can guarantee to you that Chiesa hasn’t decided anything despite all of the rumours.”
Federico Chiesa looks likely to leave after Motta comments
When asked about Chiesa’s future in a press conference this week, new Juventus managed Thiago Motta said: “He’s a Juventus player at the moment, we’ll see.”
CalcioMercato suggest this could be the latest indication that Chiesa is set to part ways with the Italian giants. The report claims the player and club are too far apart in their demands and neither party wants to leave the other one hurt, so an exit seems the best choice for all involved.
This seems to align with Fabrizio Romano‘s original claim that Motta does not see Chiesa as a key part of his project at Juventus.
It remains to be seen whether Tottenham look to pounce on the situation in the coming days.
Spurs Web Opinion:
Tottenham need a new centre-forward more than they need a new winger, I would argue.
However, if Spurs managed to get Chiesa for £21m and Ivan Toney for £40m, while selling Richarlison to Saudi Arabia for £60m, that would be an incredible trade.
