Report: Tottenham have no plans to sell 27-year-old despite claims to the contrary

Bissouma had a largely interrupted 2023/24 campaign with his shaky end to the season raising potential doubts over his Spurs future, but reports suggest that the club are keen to keep hold of the midfielder.

Bissouma shone in Spurs’ pre-season game against QPR

Although it was only a half of football, it was a half that promised Spurs fans the Bissouma they were promised when the Malian signed from Brighton two seasons ago.

The ex-Lille midfielder dictated play and often progressed the ball with his effortless dribbling, and his skill was rewarded towards the end of the half as Bissouma scored a sensational solo goal.

Yves Bissouma was one of Postecoglou’s stand-out performers in the opening stretch of the season, however, a second yellow card against Luton Town started to unravel the midfielder’s season.

A second red card, injuries and international duty with Malia restricted Bissouma to just twenty-six starts for Spurs, with the season-ending up being one of disappointment for the ex-Brighton man. (TransferMarkt)

Tottenham want to keep Bissouma this summer

Despite his troubled season last year, Tottenham have no plans to sell Bissouma, according to reports from Football Insider.

This comes after a report from The Times earlier this summer indicated Spurs were willing to cash in on the midfielder in order to fund other moves this summer.

Manager, Ange Postecoglou, reportedly perceives Bissouma as a key member of his squad ahead of next season, although the Australian is sparing in his public praise for the midfielder.

He even reminded Bissouma ‘It’s only a friendly’ when he walked past the 28-year-old discussing his goal against QPR with Tottenham’s media team. (Tottenham Hotspur)

The exit of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to Marseille has also likely increased the need for Bissouma to remain at Tottenham next season. (BBC Sport)

Spurs Web opinion

Although Bissouma really struggled last season, with his poor displays, or lack of ability, often hampering the team in my opinion, I would still be keen to keep him, especially following his pre-season displays which have been much closer to the Bissouma we thought we had purchased from Brighton in 2022.

I also believe that Tottenham require another defensive midfielder ahead of next season with the role becoming one that is possibly weak in strength and depth after Hojbjerg’s exit.
