Gray: We Need To Meet Our Standards

David Gray insists his squad must keep meeting the standards they set themselves to continue our positive start to the 2024/25 campaign.

The Hibees travel to Kelty Hearts this weekend off the back of back-to-back wins in the Premier Sports Cup – kicking off Gray’s tenure as Hibs boss.

We’ve scored 10 goals in our opening two games, but Gray is weary that we cannot rest on our laurels this weekend and expects a tough test on the road.

“When you’ve had a few 90 minutes in a row, your legs always feel a bit better off the back of a positive result.

“The boys have been nice and bright since the game on Tuesday. We’ve trained again today and we’re in a good place, but our focus has now changed to a completely different challenge up at Kelty.

“I’ve never been to Kelty, it’ll be my first time. The boys know it’ll be a tough challenge, similar to that we faced up in Elgin.

“All the pressure will be on us, these have got the potential to be very tricky ties. So we need to make sure we do everything properly – like we have done in the last two competitive games – and make sure we keep meeting the standards that we set.”

Gray confirmed that both Elie Youan and Chris Cadden are doubtful for this weekend’s tie, however, both Harry McKirdy and our new goalkeeper Jordan Smith could be in the squad. Read the full injury update here.

Gray continued: “Jordan brings a wealth of experience. He came in yesterday and trained today - he’s very vocal on the training pitch and he’s definitely going to add to that department.

“He’s going to push Josef for that number one Jersey and is another goalkeeper that Max (Boruc) can learn off too.”
