Report: Spurs-linked striker has ‘told friends’ he wants to join Man United instead

Tottenham Hotspur may have to give up the chase for one of their key attacking targets, as all signs point towards the player preferring a move to Manchester United instead.

Ivan Toney makes it clear he wants United

Spurs have long been interested in Brentford forward, Ivan Toney, but according to sources at Football Insider, the England international has his sights set on a switch to the Red Devils.

Apparently, Toney has already “told friends” that his preference this summer is to join Manchester United. It is thought he also “shared the same sentiment” during his time on international duty with England.

As United look to sign a new striker to “provide cover and competition” for Rasmus Hojlund, there is a belief that Toney fits the bill.

Brentford are “expected to sell” their star forward this summer. However, their initial price tag of £90m has dropped rather dramatically to around £60m, in light of Toney’s less-than-remarkable second half of the season in 2023/24.

This latest update is very much in line with a report from SportBILD last week, that suggested Toney had expressed his desire to join United already.

Who’s in the race for Ivan Toney?

While Spurs have been interested in Toney for quite some time, the latest club to join the race is Atletico Madrid, as they look to replace Alvaro Morata (HITC).

Meanwhile, it has been suggested that the Lilywhites would push ahead with an approach for Toney once his involvement in Euro 2024 is over (GiveMeSport).

I would be happy if we could sign Toney, but he is not worth £60m and we obviously don’t want a player that doesn’t want to join us.

There are other options out there, so it’s not the end of the world if he prefers to join Manchester United.
