‘I like everything about his game’ – Spurs star receives rave review from Ashley Williams

Former Wales centre-back Ashley Williams has become a big fan of Radu Dragusin, admitting that the Tottenham man has thoroughly impressed him at the Euros.

Dragusin has not had the easiest of starts to his time at Tottenham, having had to bide his time to get starts, with Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero ahead of him in the pecking order.

However, the 22-year-old did impress when he did get his opportunity towards the end of the season and he has demonstrated at the Euros just why he was so highly rated in Genoa.

The centre-back has arguably been Romania’s best player at the tournament, with the Eastern European nation finishing at the top of their group.

However, their progress was halted by the Netherlands at the round of 16 stage, with the Dutch running out 3-0 winners at the Allianz Arena to book their place in the competition’s quarterfinal.

Ashley Williams is a big Dragusin fan

Despite Romania’s elimination, Williams gave a glowing appraisal of Dragusin, remarking that he likes everything about the centre-back’s game.

The former Swansea defender said about the Spurs star to BBC One (broadcast on 2/7; 16:41): “Yeah, really impressed with him, he’s had a strong tournament so far, proper defender.

“I like everything about his game, I think he sets the tone for this Romanian team. You see this, this is a great clip, this first one, bang, solid. There’s no messing about with this boy at all, and I think they all take the lead, especially the backline, they defend really well.

“This is a great clip just to show the way he drives the team forward, as a centre-back he’s got no business doing this, but it just shows his energy levels, the way he wants to get his team forward.

“And when you’ve been defending for a long time, for someone to drive up the pitch and win a free-kick like that’s just a nice relief.”

Dragusin’s impressive displays on the big stage are not just a testament to his ability but also his temperament, with the centre-back proving to Ange that he is ready to step in and deliver whenever required.

The 22-year-old will get plenty of opportunities to impress next season and he will be desperate to take his chance and force himself into Postecoglou’s first-choice eleven.
