Report: How much Spurs would have to pay for Jacob Ramsey after Villa reject first offer

According to The Times, Tottenham Hotspur would have to pay a substantial fee to sign Jacob Ramsey this summer, with Aston Villa having no intention of selling the midfielder at a discount.

Spurs have serious interest in Jacob Ramsey

Tottenham are thought to hold a serious interest in Ramsey, with Alasdair Gold stating earlier this week that the interest is being driven by the club’s technical director Johan Lange, who swapped Villa Park for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last year.

However, Gold explained that the feeling at Hotspur Way is that the Villans are reluctant to sell the midfielder.

It then emerged on Wednesday that Spurs’ opening offer for the England Under-21 international had been turned down.

Express journalist Matt Maher was the first to break this news, revealing that Tottenham had submitted an offer of £20m plus Giovani Lo Celso for Ramsey, which was not enough to persuade Villa.

Aston Villa want at least £40m to sell Jacob Ramsey

The Times have now also backed up the same information, stating that the opening offer from Ange Postecoglou’s men has been sent back by the Midlands club.

The publication asserts that since Ramsey has three years left on his contract, it would take a bid of around £40m-£50m to prise him away from Villa Park.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Tottenham did offer £20m plus Lo Celso for Ramsey, it means that Spurs were already willing to go up to around £35m.

So if The Times’ information is to be believed, a slightly improved offer may be enough for the Lilywhites to clinch the deal.
