Report names two strikers who are now top of Postecoglou’s wishlist

GiveMeSport have claimed that Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez and Brentford’s Ivan Toney remain Tottenham’s two main top striker targets at the moment.

Ivan Toney is on Tottenham’s radar this summer

Spurs have been linked with a whole host of number nines through the summer but GiveMeSport contends that the two names at the top of the club’s wishlist are ones who have been mooted as targets for many months: Toney and Gimenez.

According to the report, the Mexican international is considered to be the ‘leading candidate’ for Spurs but the deal will not be straightforward for the North London side.

This is because the 23-year-old is valued by Feyenoord at £42m while other clubs around Europe are also keen on him.

Meanwhile, it is explained that Brentford are not willing to drop their asking price of £60m for Toney while Spurs are not open to paying more than £45m for the England international.

The report adds that the other two names that Tottenham really liked were Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy and RB Leipzig’s Lois Openda but the former is now off to Borussia Dortmund while the latter is valued at £70m, with the German club not wanting to lose him.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Tottenham were convinced about Gimenez, they would have made some advances towards him and begun concrete talks with Feyenoord.

The fact that they have not done so suggests to me that Spurs are playing the waiting game on Ivan Toney and are of the belief that the Bees’ asking price will come down.

Toney did not exactly have the best of form towards the end of the last Premier League season which may have caused some clubs to set their sights elsewhere.

The stats below go to show just how much he struggled following his return from the betting ban.
