Alasdair Gold reveals Tottenham forward wants to break through at the club next season

Alasdair Gold has said that Troy Parrott’s preference is to remain at Tottenham Hotspur and force himself into the first-team plans for next season.

Troy Parrott had a great season with Excelsior

Parrott will arrive in pre-season high on confidence on the back of his outstanding loan spell at Excelsior Rotterdam last season, with the striker netting 17 goals for the Dutch side.

However, the Irishman is now at an age where he cannot be considered just a young prospect anymore and this summer could very much be make or break for his chances of making it at Spurs.

It has been widely reported that the 22-year-old has emerged as a target for several clubs on the back of his impressive showing at Rotterdam, with a few Eredivisie clubs particularly keen on securing his services (Algemeen Dagblad via FC Update).

However, the Spurs academy graduate admitted to the Irish Examiner earlier this month that he does not know what the future holds, revealing that he has not spoken to Ange Postecoglou about his plans for next season.

Parrott wants to prove himself in Tottenham pre-season

Gold has now asserted that the striker retains hope of catching the Australin’s eye in pre-season and forcing himself into his plans.

The journalist wrote in his latest Football.London article about Parrott: “The striker wants to break through at Tottenham and will be pushing to be involved in pre-season in order to catch the eye. But ultimately Postecoglou will have the final say.”

Parrott did not get a chance to make an impression on Postecoglou last summer owing to the injury he suffered in pre-season.

I am sure that the Tottenham boss will want to take a close look at the Republic of Ireland international before making a decision on his future, particularly given the club’s shortage of club-trained and homegrown players.
