Tottenham have been linked with Archie Gray

Leeds’ season might have ultimately ended in disappointment as they lost to Southampton in the playoff final but there were some positives to take for the Championship side from the campaign, perhaps the biggest being the emergency of Gray.

The 18-year-old established himself in Daniel Farke’s starting eleven and delivered solid displays across the 2023-24 campaign, showing maturity beyond his years.

It was reported by Football Insider last week that the Lilywhites had shown ‘concrete’ interest in securing the teenager’s signature this summer.

However, it has now emerged that Gray will not push to leave his boyhood club this summer and is happy to spend another year in the Championship.

The report says that the teenager is not just coveted by Spurs but also several other sides, including Borussia Dortmund, but he is not in a hurry to take the next step.

It is explained that the midfielder’s agent, Hayden Evans, and his family fear that his rapid progress could be stunted by a move to a bigger club this summer.

The publication adds that Tottenham have considered making a part-exchange offer involving Oliver Skipp for Gray but it would have to be a ‘mammoth proposal’ to convince Leeds to sell their academy graduate.

Given Leeds’ financial situation, they would likely find it difficult to turn down any offer in the £30m-£35m range for Gray.

However, it remains to be seen if Tottenham would want to pay that much for the youngster on the back of just one impressive season in the Championship.

At just 18 years of age, the England under-21 international certainly did catch the eye last season, however, there will likely be a number of clubs like Southampton who will want his services and be able go guarantee him regular first-team football.

While the club should always have an eye on promising talent, the club need to make signing this summer who are capable of vastly improving the starting eleven.
