Tottenham-linked striker says he is ‘ready’ for a big transfer this summer

Rumoured Tottenham target Ivan Toney has admitted that he is flattered to be linked with some big sides and remarked that he would be ready to make a move this summer if an opportunity presented itself.

We at The Spurs Web have relayed a number of reports over the last few weeks that have talked up Tottenham’s chances of landing Toney, who has just a year left on his contract with Brentford.

Just last week, Football Transfers suggested that Spurs are ready to make an opening offer of around £40m for the 27-year-old, who was also said to be on the radars of West Ham.

However, the report explained that Tottenham’s opening offer might be turned down as it falls short of the Bees’ valuation of their star man.

Subsequently, journalist Steve Kay pointed out that Toney’s decision to change his representation to CAA Base works in Spurs’ favour, given the excellent relationship the Lilywhites have with the agency (KS1TV via TBR Football).

Toney, who is currently with the England camp preparing for the Euros, has now spoken about the transfer rumours and admitted his desire to make a step up to a bigger club.

When asked about the speculation over his future, the centre-forward told talkSPORT: “It’s nice to be linked with other clubs, but I have had disappointment in the past and nothing is done until it’s done.

“I am still a Brentford player and I have to be focused on that and doing well for Brentford for the coming season.

“If it (a big move) was to come I would be ready regardless, but like I said I have to remain focused and not let other things and other noise get the better of me.”

I think there could be a few more twists and turns in the Ivan Toney transfer saga.

I would be surprised if the likes of Chelsea and Man Utd do not get involved in the race as they are quite desperate for a top-class number nine.
